Training

My training for running has always focused on running but previously used to include a large component of swimming and later cycling – a cross section of work that gave me variety and avoided injury. However, although I still strongly advocate that cross-training is a fantastic injury prevention tool, my training has become a lot more running specific.
Due to my understanding of the training principles involved in becoming an elite swimmer, my running training used to include a huge amount of bulk. If you read some of the old articles on this website you may come across some of my old training logs. There were weeks when I was covering over 200km per week of running, a load which I now realise is not necessary to becoming an elite runner.  Often such high work loads reduce one’s ability to develop speed and also increases the risk of injury.  However, the flip side to all this is that the large distances which I clocked as a junior runner has provided me with a fantastic launch pad into my new speed oriented training.

Stay tuned to this section of the website for further information on my training.
